Nursery Products

Spring is here – time to think about planting trees, shrubs, flowers and your garden. As you plan your outdoor projects, keep in mind that “greening” of the landscape can mean more than just adding plants to improve the air and soil. To make your landscape or garden truly green – consider the source of your nursery items. How far did they travel to arrive at your local garden center?

Did you know that the nursery industry is the sixth largest agricultural “crop” in Idaho? Local growers produce trees, shrubs, sod, flowering plants, bedding plants, vegetable starts and more. These local nursery items have many advantages to the “green” gardener. They have been grown in Idaho and adapted to our unique climate; have traveled less distance to the garden center resulting in less fossil fuel use and a fresher, less stressed plant; and were produced by local growers keeping dollars in the Idaho economy.

This spring and summer as you browse the colorful garden centers in your community, take a few minutes to check the tag on plants you are considering for your yard or garden. Look for the Idaho Preferred logo to easily identify locally grown products. Or, for a complete list of Idaho Preferred® nurseries, click on the nursery icon.
